Introduction: Universities today continue to confront the persistent challenge of balancing adherence to established knowledge while also encouraging innovation and critical inquiry. Scientific progress depends not only on preserving accumulated evidence and experience, but also on questioning existing assumptions and exploring new ideas. In medical education, this balance holds particular significance, since evidence-based practice must coexist alongside independent thinking, creativity, and the capacity to address emerging challenges. Excessive reliance on quantitative performance indicators may inadvertently shift attention from the true mission of universities: the cultivation of thoughtful professionals capable of both respecting and advancing knowledge. Sustainable scientific development requires a dynamic equilibrium between commitment to rigorous standards and openness to innovation. Academic journals, as platforms for scholarly dialogue, play a vital role in fostering this balance and promoting the advancement of science in service of humanity.
