Introduction: Studies have shown that maxillary premolar teeth have a variable shape of the canal. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), is very useful for evaluating the shape of the root canal. So this study was performed to evaluate the Root and Canal Morphology of Maxillary first and second premolar teeth, in patients referring to a private clinic in Yazd by cone-beam computed tomography.
Materials and methods: 357 CBCT of first and second maxillary premolars were selected. The data gathering tool was a pre-prepared check list, which included: number of root, number of canals, type of canal, gender, type of tooth, involved side. Data was collected by SPSS version 22 and analyzed by Chi-Square and t-tests.
Result: The 60.9% of the first premolars had one root, 38% had two roots and 1.1% had three roots. 91.9% of the second premolars had one root and 8.1% had two roots. 23.4% of the first premolar teeth had one canal, 75.5% had two canals and 1.1% had three canals. 69.4% of the second premolar teeth had one canal and 30.6% was two canals. The most common type of canal in the first (58.1%) and second premolar (80.3%) was type I.There was no statistically significant difference between the frequency distribution of variables: number of dental canals, number of roots, type of tooth, type of dental canal in terms of gender and side.
Conclusion: The most common type of canal, in our study samples was type I Vertucci classification. It can also be said that the variables: involved side and gender are not effective on the abundance of root and canal numbers.
