Introduction: Opioid abuse is a major social and health problem in many parts of the world especially in Iran. There are not much information about effect of drugs (addiction) on short-term complications and bleeding after CABG. This study aimed to assess the relationship between addiction with short-term complications and bleeding after CABG.
Methods: This is a descriptive study in which 100 male patients who underwent off-pump CABG in Afshar hospital in yazd were followed during 3 months to investigate their short-term complications. preoperative and post-operative Hb, Plt, Pt, Ptt, bleeding and packed cells after operation were recorded. Then, collected data was analyzed by chi-square, fisher and exact test .
Results: In this study, 30 patients were addicts and 70 male patients were non-addicts. All patients were males and similar in preoperative characteristics such as HTN, DM, HLP, CAD, LIMA usage and NYHA FC. Addicted patients were younger than non-addicts and most of them were cigarette smokers. Regarding medical and dietary recommendation after operation, addicted patients observed these recommendation significantly less than non-addicted patients. After operation, pulmonary, neurologic and infective complications were significantly more common in addicted patients.
Conclusion: According the study results and other similar studies, drug use in patients with cardiovascular disease is noticeable. Moreover, regarding the postoperative outcomes in addicted patients, more studies needs to be conducted in this field.

Introduction: Fatty liver disease is characterized by deposition of fat droplets in the liver of patients. According to some epidemiological studies BMI, amount of fat intake from foods and high central fat are risk factors of breast cancer. This issue is one of the factors that cause high incidence of fatty liver in patients with breast cancer.
Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, all patients with breast cancer were evaluated who referred to Imam Sajjad hospital of Ramsar during 2008 - 2011. After initial review, 100 patients were enrolled. Those who were treated by chemotherapy underwent abdominal Sonography for evaluation of fatty liver. Also, those patients who also received tamoxifen in addition to chemotherapy, underwent abdominal ultrasonography 6 months after taking tamoxifen. After that, relationship between treatment of breast cancer and fatty liver in studied patients was evaluated based on obtained information.
Results: The study results revealed that after chemotherapy, 30 (30%) patients were reported to have fatty liver. Out of 70 people that after chemotherapy did not have fatty liver, 62 patients received tamoxifen and after taking tamoxifen, 45.2% developed fatty liver. Using Chi Square test, there was a significant relationship between fatty liver after receiving tamoxifen, hyperlipidemia (p=0.011) and getting overweight (P =0.017).
Conclusion: As the findings indicated, treatment of breast cancer especially with tamoxifen is associated with increased risk of fatty liver, especially in women who have hyperlipidemia and are overweight.

Introduction: Phenolic compounds have an important role as essential metabolites for plants growth and reproduction, as well as protecting agents against pathogens. These compounds are important sources of antioxidants which act as reducing agents and hydrogen donors. Consumption of fruits, vegetables and plants rich in poly phenols is associated with the reduced risk of certain cancer, cardiovascular, diabetes and Alzheimer’s diseases. Curcuma langa or Turmeric is a tropical plant that natively grows in South and Southeast Asia. This plant has been used as a spice as well as a herbal drug in traditional medicine in India. Recently, many studies have been conducted on the medical effects of this plant and still some researches are ongoing. Turmeric possesses a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects. It seems that pharmacological activities of turmeric is related to poly phenolic compounds existing in this plant.
Methods: This study was performed on the hydroalcoholic extract of the turmeric rhizome experimentally with a repetition of several times. Results of this study were presented via means±SD. In the present research poly phenolic contents of turmeric extract was evaluated using tannic acid standard.
Results: The study findings demonstrated that 1µg hydroalcoholic extract contains 0.59±0.051µmoleTAE of poly phenolic compounds.
Conclusion: This study revealed that phenolic contents of turmeric hydroalcoholic extraction is noticeable and it seems that phenolic contents are caused by curcuminoids compounds that exist in this plant.

Introduction: NKG2D receptor is one of the activator receptors of immune cells. In humans, NKG2D gene has two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP)(rs1049174G>C). According to other studies, GG SNP makes a high affinity receptor for NKG2D ligands whereas, CC polymorphism reduces NKG2D affinity for their ligands. The present study investigates NKG2D SNPs in patients with breast cancer in Yazd for the first time.
Methods: In this Case-Control study, 108 patients with breast cancer and 108 healthy women were selected from health Care centers of Yazd. Using specific NKG2D primers the gene proliferated and rs1049174G>C polymorphisms were determined by RFLP procedure.
Results: according to our statistic analysis, frequency of CC and GG genotypes in the patients were 44.4% and 13% respectively whereas, in the healthy donors the frequency was 71.3% and 6.5%. The difference between the frequency in healthy and patient groups was significant. On the other hand, the frequency of GC genotype in patients was considerably higher than the healthy women (PV, 0.0001). When the relative risk in the patients was determined, it was revealed that women with CC genotype have more susceptibility for breast cancer in comparison with healthy women (CI=95%, 1.31-2.24, OD=1.7).
Conclusion: The present study results showed that women with homozygote CC genotype have more chance of breast cancer in Yazd population.

Introduction: Elderly population is growing in developing countries and sleep quality is one of the most common problems facing the elderly. The present study investigated the effect of an aquatic exercise on sleep quality in male elders.
Methods: Thirty elderly male subjects randomly participated in this study. The subjects were randomly divided in two control and experimental groups. First, all subjects completed Pittsburgh Quality of Sleep Questionnaire then, experimental group participated in aquatic exercise three days a week for six weeks. The control group were asked to continue their daily activity. After the training, both groups again completed the Pittsburgh Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by paired and independent samples t-test. (P≤0/05).
Results: The results showed that aquatic exercise had significant effect on sleep quality of the experimental group (P<0/001), while in the control group who had not participated in aquatic exercises, no significant changes were observed (P=0/55). The results also showed that there is a significant difference (P<0/001) between the average score of mental general health of experimental and control group after the exercise while in the pre test no significant changes were observed (P = 0/648).
Conclusion: As the study results reveal, it appears that aquatic exercise is effective in improving sleep quality in older men and can be considered as an effective intervention.

Introduction: Blood glucose is high in diabetic patients. It is taken from blood by two separate pathways: Insulin-dependent pathway of phosphoinositide 3 kinase (PI3K) and insulin-independent pathway AMPK (AMP-Activated protein kinase). The first pathway is impaired in type 2 diabetic patients, but the second pathway is active. On the other hand, curcuma longa extract containing a high percentage curcumin has Anti-diabetic effects, but its exact mechanism is not clear. Therefore, this study intends to investigate the effect of curcumin on the activation of the critical pathway AMPK in C2C12 cells.
Methods: C2C12 cells, after growth and differentiation to muscle myoblast, were exposed to 40 µM concentrations of curcumin (test group) and 0.1%DMSO (control) for one hour. Then cells were collected, lysed and p-AMPK and p-ACC proteins were identified by Western blotting technique. Data were normalized with the β-Actin internal control and each band was calculated as arbitrary number compared with the control. Significant results were determined by using SPSS statistical software and student t-test.
Results: Phosphorylation of enzymes, that indicates their activation, significantly increased for p-AMPK (23±1.6) and for p-ACC (31.7±2) in presence of curcumin Compared to the control (3±0.5 1.7±0.4) (p-value <0.05).
Conclusion: The results demonstrated that anti-diabetic effects of curcumin could be done through the activation of AMPK / ACC.

Introduction: Obsessive-compulsive disorder is considered as a rare disorder at childhood period, However studies have indicated a high prevalence of this disorder in this group. Cognitive theories of this disorder attribute a central role to dysfunctional beliefs. Given prevalence of this disorder among children and adolescents as well as further investigation in this field, the present study intends to investigate the psychometric properties of a Persian version of this scale.
Methods: The OBQ-CV Persian version was completed by 547 high school students aged 15-18 years from the Shiraz city. Subjects were selected by multistage cluster sampling and data were analyzed with confirmatory factor analysis by using Lisrel software.
Results: The results revealed satisfactory Composite Reliability Index (ranging from 0/72 to0/87). Moreover, in the present study four-factor structure found in original scale was confirmed by a confirmatory factor analysis representing responsibility, perfectionism/ certainty, importance/ control of thoughts, threat estimation.
Conclusion: The study results supported the reliability and validity of the Persian OBQ-CV in Iranian adolescents and satisfactory Psychometric properties obtained to examine obsessive belief in none-clinical samples of adolescents. However, future research is needed to confirm these findings in a clinical sample.
